South Swindon Parish Council hosted celebrations across three evenings between 18 and 20 November, with community gatherings in Broadgreen, Cavendish Square and Badbury Park.

Each location featured festive stalls, live performances and children’s activities. Local traders offered food and drinks, creating a lively atmosphere for families and visitors.

The Christmas tree light switch ons were the centrepiece of each night. Crowds joined countdowns before the trees were illuminated, while Santa made appearances to greet younger attendees.

The Mayor of Swindon, Cllr Fay Howard, attended all three events alongside parish councillors. The parish said it was pleased to see residents coming together as the festive period begins.

The council thanked those who helped make the evenings run smoothly, including Corinium Event First Aid and Platinum Security. Staff, performers and traders were also recognised for their contributions.

Cllr John Firmin, Vice-Chair of Leisure, Environment & Amenities, said:

“All three Christmas Lights Switch Ons receive great support from residents, and each reflects the character and spirit of its local community. It was great to see even more activities for children to take part in this year, along with the growing links with community groups whose contributions help make these events truly special.”

Photos from the events will be shared by the parish on social media in the coming weeks. The Christmas trees will stay in place until early January.

Further festive activities will be held in Town Gardens across 13 and 14 December, and 20 and 21 December. Details can be found at www.southswindon-pc.gov.uk/event/christmas-in-the-town-gardens/
