We are renewing an appeal for information following a collision on the M4 in which a woman died.

The collision occurred at approximately 10.40pm on Sunday night between junctions 17 and 16 eastbound.

We received a number of calls from members of the public that a black Audi A3 was travelling the wrong way on the M4. The vehicle had collided with a number of vehicles before colliding head on with an Audi A4.

The driver of the Audi A3, a 41-year-old woman from Gloucester, died at the scene.

The driver of the Audi A4, a 35-year-old man from Bristol, sustained serious leg and pelvic injuries and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

PC James Trafford, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are continuing our enquiries in relation to this incident and would like to thank the members of the public who have helped with our investigation so far.

“We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, anyone who may have seen the Audi A3 prior to the collision, or anyone who may have dashcam footage who has not already made contact with police to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
