If the Tour of Britain cycling event has left you inspired to get on your bike, why not take part in the Wiltshire Big Wheel and help raise vital funds for Wiltshire Air Ambulance?

The popular annual cycling challenge is on Sunday 17 September and has a choice of routes to suit cyclists of all abilities.

It is organised for Wiltshire Air Ambulance by Bristol-based Bike Events. Last year’s event raised over £30,000 for the lifesaving charity.

Starting and finishing at The Green in Devizes there is a 12 mile family challenge which goes through the Vale of Pewsey, a 45 mile route that goes through Pewsey and Marlborough or 100 miles, which extends to the Wylye Valley and Salisbury.

A number of Wiltshire Air Ambulance aircrew and charity team staff are taking part, along with Lauren Booth, a Champion Para-cyclist of Chippenham and an Ambassador for the charity. Sue Andrews, Operations Assistant at Wiltshire Air Ambulance, will be cycling the 12 mile route with her son, Thomas, aged 12. They both did the ride last year.

Sue said: “We both really enjoyed the ride last year. It was lovely to meet so many people taking time out of their busy lives to take part and, of course, cycling through the leafy lanes of Wiltshire is such a beautiful sight to behold. Thomas is determined to cross the finish line before me (again), but we’ll have to see if that happens this year.”

Kenresa Stratford, Fundraising & Events Co-ordinator at Wiltshire Air Ambulance, said: “There’s still time to enter the Wiltshire Big Wheel and you can enter as a team, business or individually. As well as taking in some of the most scenic landscapes our county has to offer, the sponsorship you raise will help to keep our helicopter and crew flying and saving lives.”
