Wiltshire Police is asking the thousands of supporters attending the match between Swindon Town and Oxford United on Sunday 5 February at 12pm to support the police and both clubs in making public safety a priority before, during, and after the event.

We are urging all supporters to enjoy the match, but to also be aware of the following important information:

  • Supporters who usually walk to the ground from Tesco’s will have to find an alternative route as they will not be permitted entry through this way.
  • The fixture is a 12pm kick-off and supporters are encouraged to get to their seats as early as possible due to a near sell-out crowd expected.
  • The fixture will be all-ticket for home and away fans. There will be no ticket sales for the match on the day.

Superintendent Adrian Burt, Match Commander, said: “Wiltshire Police are working closely with our partner agencies, including Swindon and Oxford Football Clubs, to make this a safe and enjoyable experience for all whilst reducing the impact of this event to the local community.

“The public will notice an increase in police presence before, during and after the match. This is to maintain public safety whilst minimising community disruption.

“Body worn video cameras will be used by officers in order to support this event. The use of these cameras will help assist the police with capturing evidence for prosecutions in turn providing speedier justice.

“Please ensure if you are travelling to Swindon to plan your journey well in advance as this event is likely to be a near sell out. As the game is on a Sunday please also be aware of the Sunday trading hours, and that there will be a reduced amount of licensed premises opening as a result.

“We encourage all supporters to enjoy themselves but we ask for your support to make it a safe event for all attending, and for the local community.”
