Photographers from across the country will flock to STEAM next week (25 May) as the Swindon museum is transported back in time to the bygone era of the GWR and Swindon Railway Works.

The sell-out night time shoot is a unique opportunity for keen photographers to capture Swindon’s railway heritage as it was in its heyday. It follows a hugely successful similar events held at STEAM last year.

Run in conjunction with heritage photography experts Timeline Events, the STEAM Museum’s star-studded cast of Great Western locomotives King George V, Caerphilly Castle and City of Truro are being brought to life thanks to trained re-enactors, specialist lighting and smoke effects.

Open to photographers of all levels, the museum night shoots recreate as closely as possible the scenes from the town’s railway works.

Cameos on the night also include scenes within the museum’s evocative Boiler Shop and Railway Works Offices giving photographers of all abilities the opportunity to perfect their skills and create a wide range of images that will last a lifetime.

Owner of Timeline Events, Neil Cave said: “STEAM is the perfect venue for us as the museum is already set in the 1930s period and the collection of Great Western locomotives you have in Swindon is world class.

“Some of the photographs captured at previous STEAM night shoots have been printed in the national newspapers and magazines, but these sessions are open to photographers of all abilities and it’s a great opportunity to meet new people who share the same passion for heritage photography as we do.”

Cllr Garry Perkins, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member responsible for STEAM said: “Last year’s night-time photo shoots were incredibly successful, so it made perfect sense to hold them again this year. By utilising the expertise of Timeline Events we have been able to attract some excellent photographers, who will go on to share their pictures of the museum all over the world.

“It is a fantastic way to showcase the museum and Swindon’s fabulous railway heritage.”

Next Thursday’s night-time shoot at STEAM is already sold out, but organisers have scheduled another session to meet demand on 30 November and are urging anyone interested to book early to avoid any disappointment.

Tickets are just £45 per person and available through the www.timelineevents.org website. The evening sessions start at 6pm and finish at 11pm.
