Mothin Ali will join party members this Saturday 4th April for a full day of campaigning across two wards in the town.

Ali, who is a councillor in Leeds, was elected deputy leader of the Green Party of England and Wales in 2024.

He has built his profile around community-focused politics and grassroots organising, alongside environmental and social justice issues.

The visit is being described by organisers as an ‘action day’, aimed at mobilising volunteers and stepping up doorstep campaigning ahead of May’s local elections.

Campaigners will gather at the ‘Secret Garden’ in Queen’s Park during the morning, where Ali is expected to address activists before joining them on door-knocking in the Queen’s Park ward.

Volunteers will also distribute leaflets, with organisers saying new members are welcome and will be paired with experienced campaigners.

Local campaign manager Andy Bentley said the visit comes at a time of growing confidence for the party in Swindon.

“We’re really excited to welcome Mothin Ali to Swindon this weekend. His visit comes at a time when the Green Party is making real progress locally, with growing membership and strong momentum heading into the May elections.

This action day is about bringing people together, getting out into our communities, and showing that there is a positive, grassroots alternative for Swindon.”

The visit forms part of a wider push by the party to increase its presence in towns where it believes council seats are within reach.

With the local elections approaching in May, the day is intended to boost volunteer activity and visibility on the ground.
