McDonald’s, one of the largest fast-food outlets in the world is aiming to roll out a delivery service in the UK, which will initially start as a trial.
As the demand for fast-food delivery has surged, McDonald’s have had a global team looking into the potential of offering a food delivery service.
The fast-food chain said it was looking to launch a “small” delivery trial this summer, with specific locations yet to be decided.
“We will start with a delivery service from the right number of sites that gives us scale,” Mr Pomroy said.
“I expect we will take a similar approach to the way we rolled out our app, starting small, learning quickly and scaling up very quickly.”
Mr Pomroy also said that the delivery of food would be carried out by an external company.
This could lead the way to one of the major food delivery services such as Uber Eats or Deliveroo becoming the chosen delivery partner.
Recent figures show home deliveries of ready-to-eat food grew 10 times faster than the eating out market last year.
Over the last year Swindon’s takeaway options have dramatically increased with Deliveroo launching food delivery services for popular food destinations such as KFC, Pizza Express, Roosters Grill Shack, Burger King and Wagamama’s to name a few.
Fingers crossed for the McDonald’s lovers in Swindon that it’s good news for the town.
