The agreement comes despite the 30-year-old missing the entire 2025/26 campaign with a serious ACL injury.
It represents a significant show of faith from the club, underlining Smith’s importance to head coach Ian Holloway and his squad.
Before his injury, Smith had established himself as one of Swindon’s key performers. He was voted Player of the Season for 2024/25 after a series of influential displays and crucial goals.
The forward first joined Swindon Town F.C. in 2023 and quickly became a focal point in attack. His aerial strength and physical presence made him a constant threat, while he also emerged as one of the senior voices in the dressing room.
He suffered the ACL injury ahead of the 2025/26 season, ruling him out for the whole campaign.
In announcing the extension, the club described Smith as a “positive presence” and “strong influence” around the squad during his rehabilitation.
Ian Holloway, Head Coach of Swindon Town, said:
“Harry’s attitude through what has been a really tough injury has been first-class. He’s shown real resilience, and he’s been a massive part of the group even when he hasn’t been able to get on the pitch.
“He was our Player of the Season for a reason, he had a huge impact on us, and we all believe he can get back to that level again. He’s a top professional, a great character, and someone the lads really respect. I’m delighted he’s staying with us.”
Swindon 24 sports reporter Ian Howard also welcomed the news. He said:
“Great news that Harry Smith has signed a new contract with Swindon keeping him at the club for another year. Harry missed most of last season with a serious anterior cruciate knee ligament injury. He is a fans favourite and I hope that he will soon be commanding the opposition box and scoring plenty of goals.
“This news comes on top of Ollie Clarke, Lewis Ward and Ryan Tafazolli signing up for next season, the squad is shaping up nicely. We will have a core of experienced pros including Drinan and Palmer, to support and encourage the younger members of the squad.
“After just a few weeks away from the County Ground I can feel the excitement and expectation building. The EFL fixtures are released on June 25th and the new season kicks off on August 9th.”
By securing Smith’s future now, Swindon have removed uncertainty over one of their most experienced forwards as he continues his recovery.
The decision provides continuity as the club look to build a squad capable of pushing further up League Two next season.
