Life satisfaction and happiness levels in Swindon rose between October 2015 and September 2016 according to the latest statistics from the Office of National Statistics.

Members of the public across the UK were asked the following four questions, and asked to respond on a scale of 0 to 10:

  • overall, how satisfied are you with your life nowadays?
  • overall, to what extent do you feel the things you do in your life are worthwhile?
  • overall, how happy did you feel yesterday?
  • overall, how anxious did you feel yesterday?

The results from the four above questions show that life satisfaction and happiness in Swindon has increased, but anxiety amongst residents was slightly higher.

  • Life satisfaction in Swindon was up from 7.48 to 7.66.
  • Happiness in Swindon was up from 7.33 to 7.45.
  • Anxiety was up from 2.96 to 3.01.

There has been a 5% rise in the number of people that are enjoying a high or very high level of life satisfaction.

There has also been a 5% drop in the number of people that have a low or medium life satisfaction in Swindon according to the latest statistics.

Office for National Statistics representative Matthew Steel said: “At a time when economic measures are generally improving, this is not necessarily reflected in how people tell us they are feeling about their lives.

“Whilst it is too early to say why anxiety ratings have increased slightly and why life satisfaction, happiness and worthwhile ratings have levelled off in the past 12 months, we know from our previous research that factors impacting most on people’s personal well-being include health, work situation and relationship status.”

We want to know how you feel about these results; How satisfied with life are you and to what extent do you feel the things you do in your life are worthwhile?
