Swindon Borough Council’s parking ticket machines will no longer accept the old £1 coin after Saturday, 30 September 2017.
The Royal Mint has urged businesses to prioritise the newly-designed 12-sided £1 coin before it becomes legal tender from 15 October in order to limit the circulation of the old coins.
The move will also allow the Council to bank the old coins ahead of The Royal Mint deadline.
Signs have been placed on all the Council’s parking ticket machines for the last 3 weeks to make car park users aware of the changes.
Anyone using the Council’s car parks from Sunday who does not have the correct change can use the alternative payment options on the majority of ticket machines or utilise the PayByPhone service.

From 15 October the old £1 coin will no longer be accepted in shops, restaurants and other retailers, however, people will be able to trade exchange their old coins at banks for a limited period of time.
