A team of sport fans from Swindon are celebrating after winning the ultimate football-themed quiz and walking away with an ‘unbelievable’ prize.

To celebrate the summer of sport, Greene King pubs nationwide have been searching for a team of football fanatics through a series of pub quiz events, which resulted in a grand final hosted by footballing legend, Chris Kamara.

The quiz team, known as, ‘Old Firm’, beat off stiff competition from rival teams across the country to take the number one spot and scoop a £5,000 cash prize.

The team excelled on the night, with an impressive score of 70 out of 80 and celebrated their victory with TV personality and football icon, Chris Kamara.

The Old Firm’s team captain, Brian Strickland, said: “We couldn’t believe it when we heard we had won the quiz. Although we’re all huge sports fans we never thought we’d walk away as the winners – you might say it was unbelievable!

“It was amazing to meet Kammy; he is a sporting legend and it was great to talk to him about the competition and his predictions for the summer of sport.”

Leigh Johnson, general manager at Greene King pub The Chase where the grand final was held, added: “There was a fantastic atmosphere in the pub during the event and Kammy was the perfect person to build excitement in the room.

“We were delighted to see Old Firm walk away with the top prize – their footballing knowledge was something to behold so it was certainly well deserved!”

To celebrate the summer of sport, Chris Kamara has worked with Greene King to create a limited edition ale – aptly named ‘Un-BEER-lievable’.

The easy drinking light ale will be available in 1,300 Greene King pubs nationwide from Thursday 14 June.

Chris Kamara commented: “I had a fantastic time kicking things off at The Chase with the ultimate footballing quiz – there was great banter and sportsmanship from all teams and Old Firm were the rightful winners on the night.

“Whatever the results this year, Greene King and I are working together to make this year’s summer of sport the best yet, and I’m looking forward to raising a pint of my new beer as the beautiful game gets underway on 14 June – it’s going to be unbelievable!”
