Seeing a happy patient return home from hospital is a truly rewarding experience and it’s just one of the reasons to consider a career with the teams helping people back on their feet after illness or injury.
Intermediate care is an essential part of many patients’ recovery plan as it provides them with the extra support needed to make the transition from hospital ward to home as smooth and stress free as possible.
A recruitment event is being held on Wednesday 8 March at the Swindon Intermediate Care Centre (SwICC), located next to the Great Western Hospital, for healthcare staff interested in joining this unique area of the NHS.
Those coming along will be able to meet the teams already working in intermediate care, ask questions about the roles available, and have a tour of the state-of-the-art SwICC facility before potentially sitting an interview.
Ashley Oakshott, Interim Head of Recruitment, said: “When thinking of a hospital, it’s easy to imagine that when patients begin to feel better, they’re discharged and sent on their way.
“In reality, there’s a whole other stage in between leaving hospital and returning home, and that’s called intermediate care.
“Sometimes patients, especially those who are elderly or with long term conditions, need a little extra help to make sure they have everything they need to live independently in their own home.
“Being in hospital and away from family and friends can be really difficult, but it’s the work of the intermediate care teams that can help relieve that anxiety and get patients moving as soon as possible.
“It’s a fantastic area to work in as it can make a real difference to so many people who are keen to return to their normal life as quickly as possible.”
Among the jobs being profiled on the night include ward-based staff nurses and physiotherapists.
There are also opportunities for healthcare assistants to join the Trust through the Bank, an internal staffing agency which lets employees pick the shifts that work around them and their personal commitments, such as childcare.
