Melody Barker, 12, from Swindon, will be cycling 215km from Whitehaven to Sunderland in memory of her Grandmother, Cynthia Awojinrin.

Melody explains: “I like cycling and cycling over mountains will be an exciting experience and a good test of my abilities and mountain bike. I am happy to combine cycling with the opportunity to raise money for a charity that works to cure Parkinson’s, a condition which affected my grandmother”.

Melody has set up a Just Giving page and has already surpassed her target of £400. If you would like to donate and help Melody raise even more money for Parkinson’s UK, please visit her online fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/melody-pedals.

Melody will be accompanied by her dad Philip while mum Chrissy drives the support vehicle.

Ruth Brady, Regional Fundraiser for Parkinson’s UK in the South, said: “I’d like to thank Melody for taking on such an amazing challenge”.

“Here, at Parkinson’s UK, we are leading the way to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for the 127,000 people affected by Parkinson’s across the UK, but our work wouldn’t be possible without the determination of fundraisers like Melody”.
