Calne-based mobility equipment company Urathon has become the main partner of Swindon Town FC Community Foundation’s Disability Programme.
The partnership will support weekly sessions at Foundation Park, where people with Down’s syndrome, learning difficulties, mental health challenges and other disabilities can take part in sporting activities.
It will also help the Foundation deliver its Memory Café for people living with dementia and its Staying Connected group, which aims to reduce loneliness and social isolation.
Further support will be provided for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) holiday camps and multi-sport festivals delivered alongside the Premier League.
The agreement takes effect immediately, with joint community events and outreach activities planned over the coming months.
Urathon, which designs and manufactures mobility equipment and daily living aids, has previously supported disability sport and rehabilitation initiatives in Wiltshire.
The company recently renewed its sponsorship of teenage wheelchair athlete and Paralympic hopeful Toby Richardson and donated shower chairs to a charity supporting stroke rehabilitation patients.
Managing Director Lucy Carson said:
“As a company rooted right here in Wiltshire, Swindon Town is very much our local team, and we are so impressed with the work of the community foundation, which is an ideal fit for us.
“We design products focused on independence and quality of life every day, so seeing the dedication of the foundation – especially through initiatives like the Disability Programme – is very close to home.
“We are really excited about this partnership, and to let more people know that there is a mobility aids company right on their doorstep.”
Swindon Town FC Community Foundation delivers educational, health, sporting and social inclusion programmes to thousands of people across the region each year.
Darren Howell, the Foundation’s Partnership and Strategic Manager, said:
“Swindon Town FC Community Foundation are very excited to have secured Urathon as our primary partner for the Disability Programme.
“Urathon’s commitment to improving independence and quality of life aligns closely with the work we do every day, particularly through our disability, inclusion and social connection programmes.
“We’re really looking forward to working alongside Lucy and the Urathon team to create meaningful opportunities for local people and strengthen the support available across our community.”
The organisations hope the partnership will help more residents access activities, build friendships and maintain their independence.
