Ten employees from UK Shared Business Services (UKSBS) joined the Wiltshire & Berks Canal Trust for conservation work near Kingsdown Road.
The group spent six hours clearing hedges and vegetation, preparing the towpath and maintaining wildlife habitats.
They also helped with fencing and repairs to the canal bank as part of ongoing efforts to restore the historic waterway.
The Wiltshire & Berks Canal Trust is working towards restoring around 70 miles of canal and towpath.
Its long-term aim is to create a continuous waterway and green corridor for walkers, cyclists, boaters and wildlife.
Kinga Harman, from UKSBS, said the impact of the volunteering day on 23 September was immediately visible.
She said:
“It was a fantastic experience from start to finish.
“We helped clear old branches and vegetation from the canal path, and it was amazing to see what an organised group of volunteers could achieve in just six hours.
“The pathway was transformed into a cleaner, safer, more welcoming space for local families and visitors to enjoy.”
The volunteers were also given a boat trip along the canal and learned more about the wider restoration project.
The Trust says bringing the historic waterway back into use could provide accessible routes for walking, running and cycling while creating habitats and improving biodiversity.
Supporters also believe the project could encourage leisure and canal-related businesses, while parts of the waterway could help manage excess rainwater and reduce flood risks.
UKSBS employee Sean Westrupp said:
“I got to try things I’d never done before, visit somewhere new, and despite the hard work, the laughs and shared experiences made the day fly by.”
UKSBS provides employees with three paid volunteering days each year to support charities and community projects.
The Wiltshire & Berks Canal Trust relies heavily on volunteers to restore and maintain sections of the canal.
