Swindon school heatwave update: Full A-Z list of closures and early finishes

With temperatures forecast to exceed 35°C and a Met Office red heat warning in force, schools across Swindon have announced a range of measures including early finishes, remote learning and full closures.

Schools across Swindon have announced a range of measures as the borough prepares for temperatures expected to exceed 35C during this week’s heatwave.

While some schools will remain open with shortened days and relaxed uniform rules, others have moved lessons online or announced full closures during the Met Office’s red weather warning. Here’s a school-by-school guide to the latest arrangements for pupils, parents and carers.

Abbey Meads Community Primary School
Parents may choose to keep children at home during the heatwave.

Bradon Forest School
Closing at 1.10pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Sports Day, the Pride Picnic and Bradon’s Got Talent final have been postponed.

Bridlewood Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Churchward School
Closed until Friday.

Commonweal School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Dorcan Academy
Students will finish on-site learning at 11.30am on Tuesday before completing lessons remotely. The school will be fully closed on Wednesday and Thursday, with all learning taking place remotely.

Eastrop Infant School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Ferndale Primary School and Nursery
Parents may keep children at home on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday or collect them from 1.15pm.

Gorse Hill Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Grange Junior School 
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Haydonleigh Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Haydon Wick Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Kingfisher CE Academy
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Lawn Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Lethbridge Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Moredon Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Mountford Manor Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Nythe Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Orchid Vale Primary School
Open 8.40am-12.30pm

Oakhurst Community Primary School
Closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Peatmoor Community Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Red Oaks Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Ridgeway School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Robert Le Kyng Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rodbourne Cheney Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Royal Wootton Bassett Academy
Closing at 12.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Sevenfields Primary School
Closing at 1pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Southfield Junior School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

St Mary’s CE Primary School, Purton
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

St Luke’s Academy
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Croft Primary School
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Deanery CE Academy
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Uplands School 
Closed Wednesday and Thursday.

William Morris Primary School
Parents may keep children at home on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday or collect them between 1pm and 1.15pm. Outdoor PE and sporting activities have been cancelled.

Wroughton Infant Academy
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wroughton Junior Academy
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

The White Horse Federation has confirmed all of its schools will close on Wednesday and Thursday due to the extreme heat. Other schools across the borough have introduced early finishes, remote learning and flexible attendance arrangements to help keep pupils and staff safe.
