The research, commissioned by Pablo Casino, analysed more than six hundred thousand tracks taken from public Spotify playlists linked to waking up, motivation and feel good moods.

Each song was assessed using Spotify audio data, focusing on energy, danceability and valence. Extra importance was given to mood and movement, based on the idea that happiness and rhythm are more likely to trigger action in the morning.

The top ranked wake up track was HUMBLE. (Skrillex remix) by Kendrick Lamar and Skrillex, ahead of a mix of older classics and modern chart hits.

The full top ten list included:

* Hey Ya! by Outkast
* Lil Boo Thang by Paul Russell
* Uptown Funk featuring Bruno Mars
* Escape (The Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes
* Come and Get Your Love by Redbone
* I KNOW ? by Travis Scott
* Wannabe by Spice Girls
* Feel So Close by Calvin Harris
* Popular by The Weeknd

The researchers said tempo alone was not enough to make a good alarm song. Tracks that scored highly for happiness and movement were more likely to prompt people to get up rather than reach for the snooze button.

Pablo Lebrun said the research was designed to encourage people to rethink how they start their day.

With that in mind, Swindon24 wants to hear from readers in Swindon and across Wiltshire. Residents are being asked to share the song that genuinely gets them out of bed, whether that is a club classic, a rock anthem, something nostalgic or even silence followed by coffee.

The responses will be used to create a Swindon wake up playlist that reflects how the town actually starts its day, rather than what an algorithm suggests.
