Keep an eye out for special delivery from the council

Taxpayers in Swindon are being advised to keep an eye out for a special delivery that is being put through the letter boxes of every home in the town.

This year’s council tax information booklet, which tells people exactly how their council tax is spent, has already started hitting doormats, and residents are being encouraged to look out for it when it is delivered with their annual council tax bill.

You can also take the a quiz to see how council tax is spent per every £1000.

The booklet provides details about how the Council spends peoples’ council tax contributions. It also contains information about ongoing and future projects – from the £270m North Star development to plans for the Fleming Way bus station.

A till receipt on the back also gives a breakdown of how much money is spent on different services.

Councillor David Renard, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: “The council tax booklet is a great way of explaining to residents where their money goes and how the Council is delivering services for them.

“This year, more than 80 per cent of the Council’s £142m budget is to be spent on caring for vulnerable adults and children. Many residents will never benefit from these services, but looking after the most vulnerable people in our borough is a priority for the council.

“It does mean we are having to do more with less, but it is important we explain our role in delivering some huge projects that will benefit the whole town. The North Star indoor ski slope is a great example of one such scheme where the Council has played a key role and there are many examples of similar projects where we are laying the foundations for a new and improved Swindon.

“This includes major investment in our roads and building quality houses and schools for the residents of today and tomorrow.”

People are also being encouraged to follow Swindon Borough Council’s Facebook and Twitter accounts where more information about the council tax booklet will be published over the coming days.

You can view the booklet online here.
