Having run many Swindon Arkell’s pubs in the past and served as chef at top London restaurant L’Escargot, Darren has recently taken on The Angel in Purton alongside Bianca.

Also, landlord at The Clifton in Old Town, Darren likes a challenge and has already made strides to make The Angel an exciting focal point for Purton.

After taking over in early February, they have already made swift progress on the renovations and opened the doors again in just three days with a new and improved impressive bar area.

Food is next on the menu and the new tenants have ambitions to make this the biggest draw to the pub. It will be gastro style, comfort food that is not over-priced but with the best ingredients sourced to ensure the highest quality.

Many locals are eagerly anticipating the opening of the restaurant, which is expected to launch late March.

There are also plans to completely renovate and extend the garden area to accommodate a vast amount of picnic tables and allow for al fresco dining as the weather warms.

The function room is also a priority for the new tenants, with a new bar and décor update currently underway and due to open following the restaurant opening which should prove to be a great space for events and parties.

Locals have been very welcoming and friendly which has given Darren and Bianca a positive feeling for their future.

They encourage anyone in the Purton or nearby to pop in and see the changes that have been made so far and chat about the exciting things to come!

Swindon 24 will be taking another visit to The Angel once all of the renovations are complete.
