Wiltshire Police have been carrying out increased patrols in the Pinehurst area of Swindon as part of a crackdown on drugs and anti-social behaviour.

On Saturday, 3rd November, officers from the Swindon North Community Policing Team attempted to stop a man on a bicycle, who made off towards Linden Avenue.

They gave chase on foot and caught up with him, searched him under the Misuse of Drugs Act and seized a quantity of cannabis.

An 18-year-old was arrested and subsequently charged with possession of cannabis.

On Sunday, 4th November, officers received a report of an attempted robbery where three men had tried to pull someone off their bike in the Pinehurst area.

Officers stopped a suspect and carried out a search, finding a quantity of what is believed to be drugs and a claw hammer.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs, possession of Class B drugs and possession of an offensive weapon. He is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

PC Phillip Carter, from Swindon North CPT, said: “Officers have increased patrols of the Pinehurst area of the town in order to tackle anti-social behaviour.

“We encourage members of the public with information regarding such activity to get in contact with Wiltshire Police so we can target the local issues in the area.”

Anyone who has suspicions about drug activity in their area should report it to police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
