Swindon Borough Council is looking to breathe new life into the old Aspen House site in the town centre.

Expressions of interest are currently being sought for developers to take on the project, which could transform the area around the Cenotaph.

Outline planning permission was granted in October last year for 118 units of one and two-bedroom apartments within a building which could be up to 13 storeys high.

The site is also considered suitable for commercial development such as a hotel.

The Council hopes the development will enhance the town centre by turning it into a quality place to live and work. It is one of the Council’s key pledges and will bring huge benefits to the town centre as a whole.

Cllr Garry Perkins, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Town Centre, said: “This is a very exciting project and we are keen to work with developers to bring it to fruition.

“Making the town centre an attractive place to live and work is a key priority for this Council, and this site has huge potential for successful redevelopment.”

Aspen House was a 12-storey office block built in the 1970s and demolished in 2014. The site has an area of 0.49 ha (1.21 acres) and lies directly opposite The Savoy at the top end of town.

Expressions of interest are requested by 12 noon on Wednesday, 12th September 2018.
