This week, New College Swindon picked up an award for their Outstanding Contribution to the Digital Schoolhouse programme. The college has been involved in delivering inspirational Computer Science workshops to local Primary and Secondary schools across Swindon for two years. New College have also had the opportunity to take part in various conferences with Digital Schoolhouse to promote the programme and the work they have done with the local community. The College also participated in the Digital Schoolhouse eSports competition earlier this year and one student won best shout caster of the tournament and has since been taken on as an intern for a professional eSports company.

This week, the college picked up their award for Outstanding Contribution to the Digital Schoolhouse Programme. Tony Gilbert, Assistant Curriculum Manager Computing, Business, Travel and Hospitality, commented: “I was delighted to have picked up the award on behalf of New College. However, none of this would have been possible without the support of Digital Schoolhouse and the local community. We are very privileged to be a Digital Schoolhouse and we will continue to work with the local community and inspire our young learners with inspirational Computing lessons.”

New College has maintained Digital Schoolhouse status for 2019/20 and will be looking to deliver even more workshops to local schools and the surrounding area, as well as working with Great Western Academy, who have also been awarded Digital Schoolhouse status.

All workshops are free for both Primary and Secondary schools, the College and Digital Schoolhouse aim to provide young pupils with the necessary computational thinking skills to tackle the Computing curriculum. New College are determined to continue to deliver inspirational workshops and CPD to support teachers with the Computing curriculum.
