Local people are invited to stand for election to become a public governor of Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a position which helps represent the interests of Trust members to the organisation’s Board of Directors.

There is a vacancy in each of these two constituencies:

•    Gloucestershire & Bath & North East Somerset Constituency
•    Southern Wiltshire Constituency

Who can apply

Anybody local aged over 18 years old who is a Trust member can put themselves forward for election. It’s free and easy to become a member – for full details please see the Trust website: Becoming a member.

No particular experience or skills are necessary and the appointed governors will receive an induction and training programme to help them with their duties.

Potential candidates should be willing to:

•    Maintain an interest in healthcare
•    Keep pace with strategic issues affecting the Trust
•    Contribute towards the future plans of the Trust
•    Understand the role and requirements of the independent regulator, NHS Improvement
•    Act and behave in the interests of the Trust
•    Communicate with and develop the Membership of the Trust.

Public governors are part of the Council of Governors; a body also made up of staff governors and appointed governors. The Council meets quarterly and is responsible for holding the Board of Directors to account for the Trust’s performance.

How to apply

If you’re interested in applying to become a public governor, please request a nomination form to stand for election from the Returning Officer (please see below).

Any potential candidate can request a nomination form from Friday 25 August 2017. The deadline to return completed forms is Tuesday 12 September 2017 at 5.00pm.
