A Swindon nursery has been praised by Ofsted after achieving a “Good” rating in its latest inspection.

Twelve months ago, Trinity Day Nursery in Victoria Road, was told by inspectors it needed to improve after concerns were raised about inconsistencies in the quality of teaching.

But a year on and, after working closely with Swindon Borough Council’s Early Years and Admissions teams, the setting has achieved good grades across the board.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management; the quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare; and outcomes for children were all rated as being “good”.

The inspector noted that leaders and staff had made good progress since the last inspection and that detailed action plans and guidance supported staff to improve the quality of their teaching and interactions.

Children were also reported to be making good progress in their learning and a number of strategies were employed to keep parents’ informed about their children’s learning and how to extend learning at home.

Leaders establish strong partnerships with the linked school providing consistent support for children as they prepare to move onto school. The report also praised the behaviour of children at the nursery and highlighted that staff are caring and good role models.

Cllr Fionuala Foley, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and School Attainment, said: “I am so pleased Trinity Day Nursery has had such a successful Ofsted inspection. The management have had to overcome a number of difficulties, including temporary staffing issues last autumn, but they have worked tirelessly with council officers to turn things around.

“The director of the nursery has acted robustly on external advice and secured strong improvement. Leadership and management are effective, staff are well-qualified and children achieve well. There are also positive relationships with parents, other professionals and local schools.

“Trinity Day Nursery should be justifiably proud of its achievement and I look forward to seeing it continue to flourish as one of our early years’ settings that will provide 30 hours of free childcare from September.”

Shanika Basnayake, Director of Trinity Day Nursery, said: “I am delighted that we have achieved a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating. It truly reflects the hard work and dedication that all of the staff and the management team have put in over the last year to improve the quality of care for our children.

“Having opened our doors just over 18 months ago, I am very excited for the future of Trinity – I know we will continue to uphold the standards that we have worked so hard to achieve.”
