Local people may of spotted a few familiar faces on Channel 4 last night as Great Western Hospital’s emergency team become national stars of the small screen in the new series of 999: What’s Your Emergency? at 9pm.

The fourth series of the hit documentary will be following the team alongside colleagues in Wiltshire’s police, paramedics and fire services as they work together to respond to incidents across the county.

Billed as “an intimate and frank look at modern Britain through the eyes of the emergency services on the front line” this new series focuses on services based in Swindon and Trowbridge, following crews from the moment a 999 call is made.

Victims, patients and criminals then reveal the personal stories that have driven them to be at the centre of an emergency call out.

Annette Baskerville, Clinical Matron for the Emergency Department, said: “We really enjoyed taking part in the show and hope this gives local people a real insight into the work we do every day.”

The episode examines the rise of racially-aggravated hate crimes in Wiltshire, with a future episode looking at the rise of hard drugs on the streets, following the story of a drug user whose life is saved by emergency staff.

Other issues to feature in the series include the increase in mental health issues among young men.
