Swindon People’s Assembly is inviting everyone to celebrate the refugees and migrants rich contribution to our town by joining the welcome march and picnic.

Supported by Swindon Trades Union Council, Hope Not Hate and Swindon City of Sanctuary, we will be holding a short rally at Wharf Green at 2pm on Saturday 22nd July.

Some speakers will be followed by a march around the town centre.

We will finish at GWR Park in Faringdon Road for a picnic.

Last year over 100 people attended the refugees welcome march in Swindon, and now this year we hope to make it even bigger and better.

Everyone is invited to bring banners, whistles and drums. Invite your neighbours, family and friends.

‘Let’s celebrate the rich diversity of our town and the invaluable contribution that migrants and refugees bring’, said Kate Linnegar of Swindon People’s Assembly.

‘There are over 65 million people that have been forcibly displaced from their homes, 60% of them are hosted in world’s most fragile states. 115 million people lack basic health services, 94 million lack water and sanitation services, and 34 million lack access to education. Let’s welcome those people who have chosen to make Swindon their home. Join us to give a clear message to this government that we believe everyone has the right to a safe and secure home, with access to health care, education, jobs and the freedom to live in peace.’

Bring some food and drink to share at the picnic and something to sit on.
