The authority was shortlisted in five categories at the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards, which took place on Wednesday evening.

Ahead of the ceremony, Chief Executive Samantha Mowbray said the nominations reflected the council’s ongoing improvement programme. She said:

“We’re shortlisted for five awards and deserve every single one of them. This is a real point of celebration on a consistent and deliberate improvement journey. The team really deserve this recognition.”

The council was awarded Silver in the Economic Support category, recognising work to support local businesses, residents and the wider economy.

Andrew Wells, Head of Inward Investment and Inclusive Economy, said:

“I am incredibly proud that Swindon Borough Council was awarded the Silver Award in the Economic Support category at the LGC Awards last night.

“Myself and Kaustubh Wabale have only been delivering the service area for just over a year and to receive this kind of recognition is incredible for such a small team.”

He added:

“Behind this award are countless hours of hard work, collaboration, and a shared dedication to supporting our local economy, businesses, and residents when they need it most.”

Mr Wells also thanked council leaders, local partners and political representatives for their support, saying the award reflected a collective effort across the organisation.

The evening brought further success when council employee Ruth King won the Outstanding Individual Contribution award.

Mr Wells described the recognition as “richly deserved”, praising her commitment and hard work.

Matt Peachey, Service Director for Inclusive Growth at Swindon Borough Council, welcomed the achievements. He said:

“Proud of the team. A great achievement in their first year.”

The awards success comes as the council continues efforts to improve services and strengthen its reputation following a period of transformation and organisational change.

With five shortlistings and two awards, council leaders believe the recognition reflects growing confidence in the authority and the work being carried out across its services. Mr Wells added:

“Here’s to keeping the momentum going and next year to bring home Gold.”
