The governing body of Highworth Town Council has unanimously approved a commitment to continue funding the staffing of Highworth Library through the 2026/27 period. Under the agreement with Swindon Borough Council the Council will once again cover half of the library’s staffing costs.
This joint funding enables Highworth Library to remain open for 30 hours a week, preserving access to books, events and community activities that many residents rely on.
As part of the plan, Highworth Town Council will launch a dedicated library page on its website to provide up-to-date information on opening times, services and upcoming events. The aim is to make the service easier to navigate and to help residents stay informed.
Councillors highlighted the importance of the library as a centre for learning, social connection and wellbeing. The Council said that long-term support remains a priority and that it will continue working with Swindon Borough Council to strengthen the library offering and broaden the range of activities available.
Highworth Library is one of five core libraries operated by Swindon Borough Council, alongside Central, North Swindon, Park and West Swindon.
The wider network across Swindon also includes eight community libraries run by parish and trust groups.
