Construction firm McLaren Construction has handed over the flagship 545,000 sq ft facility following a 39-week build programme, making it one of the largest commercial buildings delivered on the redeveloped site.

The project forms part of the ongoing transformation of the former Honda factory, which closed in 2021, into a major employment and logistics hub for the South West.

The building has been designed to attract large-scale occupiers and combines high-specification warehouse space with premium office accommodation. Features include a main reception, a feature link bridge, modern office facilities and employee welfare areas.

Environmental performance was a key focus throughout the project. The development achieved a BREEAM Outstanding rating while targeting net zero upfront embodied carbon through measures including recycled steel, lower-carbon concrete, modern construction techniques and extensive recycling of materials during construction.

McLaren Construction said apprentices worked on the project throughout the build across several trades. The site also received a high score from the Considerate Constructors Scheme for its community engagement, environmental management and workforce wellbeing.

Luke Arnold, Regional Director at McLaren Construction Midlands and North, said: “Delivering Panattoni Park Swindon is a fantastic achievement and a real credit to the entire project team.

“From the outset, this was an ambitious schedule, and through careful planning, strong collaboration and the commitment of our trusted supply chain, we’ve been able to complete the project on time and to an exceptional standard.”

Peter Carter Wall, Construction Director at Panattoni, said:

“The team took an aspiration to create something special and delivered an impressive reality that has been widely admired.

“It has been a pleasure working with the team, and this building stands as a showpiece achievement everyone involved should be very proud of.”

The completion is the latest visible sign of progress in the redevelopment of one of Swindon’s most significant employment sites.

Attention will now turn to securing an occupier for the building, with the potential to bring hundreds of jobs back to land that once employed thousands of people during Honda’s four decades in the town.

The wider Panattoni Park development is expected to provide several million square feet of industrial and logistics space over the coming years, with multiple units planned across the former manufacturing campus.
