The Mobii touchscreen table will now be based at Prospect Hospice on Moormead Road in Wroughton.
The equipment was previously used for community wellbeing initiatives, including the Haydon Wick Memory Café. Councillors agreed to gift the table after it became increasingly underused in recent years.
Attempts had been made to expand its use across schools, care homes and community groups. However, the council said similar technology is now more widely available across the care sector, reducing demand locally.
The Mobii table features interactive games, activities and sensory experiences. It is designed to encourage engagement, communication and cognitive stimulation, particularly for people living with dementia and other complex conditions.
Its arrival at Prospect Hospice comes during Dementia Action Week. The council described the timing as significant in highlighting the importance of activities that support memory, wellbeing and social connection.
A spokesperson for Haydon Wick Parish Council said:
“This donation reflects our commitment to community wellbeing. Prospect Hospice is well placed to make full use of the Mobii table, ensuring it benefits local people when meaningful engagement and comfort matter most.”
The donation builds on an existing relationship between the parish council and the hospice.
In June 2024, the council awarded Prospect Hospice a £2,000 community grant to support its Hospice at Home service for residents in Haydon Wick who wished to receive care at home.
According to the council, the funding helped provide 10 overnight respite visits for carers or almost 50 daytime support visits for patients and families.
A spokesperson for Prospect Hospice said:
“We are very grateful to Haydon Wick Parish Council for this generous donation. The Mobii interactive activity table will create valuable opportunities for engagement, stimulation, and social interaction for the people in our care.
“Equipment like this can make a meaningful difference to patients and families by supporting wellbeing, encouraging connection, and enhancing the overall hospice experience. We are delighted to put the Mobii table to good use within our services.”
The parish council said the decision reflects a wider focus on ensuring public assets are redirected where they can make the greatest impact within the community.
