The free community event will take place at Queens Park on Saturday 20 June from 11am-7pm.

Organised by V2Gether Swindon CIC, the event is inspired by the traditional Goan San João festival. The celebration is rooted in themes of welcome, joy and togetherness.

Historically, San João marks families coming together to share food, music and fellowship. It also reflects the biblical story of Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth, symbolising blessing, unity and community spirit.

This year’s programme will include live music, DJs and cultural performances. There will also be food and drink stalls, family entertainment and a variety of community information stands.

Mayor Fay Howard attended last year

Joseph Pereira, lead coordinator, said:

“We have been encouraged by the growing support the event has received across Swindon over the past two years.

“The celebration was designed to bring people from different backgrounds together in a relaxed and welcoming environment.”

Swindon is home to a long-established Goan and Portuguese-speaking community. Cultural events celebrating that heritage have become an increasingly visible part of the town’s summer calendar in recent years.

Organisers say the jamboree is not only a cultural celebration but also an opportunity to strengthen friendships and connections across the town.

Entry is free and open to all.
