The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal, which will keep him at the County Ground until the summer of 2028.

Kilkenny has become a key part of the Robins’ squad since arriving in Wiltshire, featuring regularly in midfield. His energy and work rate have seen him trusted to play an important role in both defensive and attacking phases.

The club say his intelligence in possession and willingness to put in hard work have made him a consistent performer. He has often been used to help provide balance in the centre of the pitch.

In recent weeks, Swindon’s performances have shown signs of improvement and greater stability. Kilkenny has been part of a more settled midfield setup as the side look to build momentum.

The new contract is viewed as part of the club’s longer-term planning. Swindon are aiming to retain players they see as important to their future as they continue to shape the squad.

Kilkenny’s professionalism away from matchdays has also been noted by those at the club. His approach in training and preparation has helped him establish himself within the group.

He began his football education in Ireland before moving into the English game at a young age. That experience has contributed to his maturity and calmness when under pressure during matches.

Kilkenny’s positional awareness and understanding of the game have translated well to League football. Those qualities have helped him adapt quickly and perform consistently.

Swindon Town say they are pleased to have secured Kilkenny’s future. The club added that they look forward to seeing him continue to develop and contribute in red and white over the coming seasons.
