With 20 league matches played, the Robins sit third on 37 points and hold an automatic promotion place.

It marks a significant shift from last season, when Swindon finished 12th and ended the campaign in mid-table.

Head coach Ian Holloway, who took over in late October 2024, is credited with guiding the club to stability last term before pushing them into contention this season.

The scale of the improvement is reflected in the numbers. Swindon have already won 11 league matches, which is not far short of the 15 victories they recorded across the whole of the 2024-25 campaign.

They are also well ahead of last season’s points pace at the same point, when Swindon had 16 points after 20 games in 2024-25 compared to 37 now.

In front of goal, Swindon have scored 34 times in the league so far. Defensively, they have conceded 25, leaving them with a plus nine goal difference at this stage.

A key result arrived on Saturday 29 November, when Swindon won two-one away at Chesterfield to keep themselves in the automatic promotion places.

Recruitment and player development have been presented as major factors behind the upturn. TA summer reshaping the team included midfield departures for Saidou Khan and Jake Cain.

Striker Ollie Palmer is presented as one of the standout additions after joining from Wrexham in late August on a two-year deal.

Palmer has scored four league goals so far and has helped provide a physical presence up front alongside Drinan.

Drinan has been identified as Swindon’s key attacking threat, he has scored 10 league goals by December and leads the division’s scoring at this stage.

In midfield, Joe Snowdon is described as a young player who has taken on a bigger role after arriving from Leeds United, while Gavin Kilkenny is a consistent presence across the league programme.

Captain Ollie Clarke has shown leadership and composure in the centre of the pitch.

With half the season remaining, Swindon’s position is strong but the margins remain tight. They are level on points with second-placed Notts County and two points behind leaders Walsall.

The second half of the season will decide whether Swindon can sustain their pace, but the evidence so far points to a side that has found consistency, responded to setbacks, and put itself in a genuine fight for promotion.

Attendances to matches are slowly climbing in number, as almost-full games and vocal fans can only help to push the team towards victory.

Swindon Town’s next League Two game sees them host Crawley Town at the County Ground this Saturday 20 December, kick-off 3.00pm, as they look to maintain their promotion push.
