The race returned to raise money for Brighter Futures, the charity supporting Great Western Hospital and community health services in Swindon.
The festive fundraiser combined two well known local events, the Swindon Phoenix Rotary Clubs’ Santa Run and Brighter Futures’ Reindeer Run. Both were once again brought together under the Santa vs Rudolph banner.
The event was delivered in partnership with Swindon Rotary. The organisation oversaw another well attended community run across the historic estate, which is also home to one of the region’s busiest Park Runs.
The Mayor of Swindon Fay Howard welcomed participants at the start before returning to the finish to present medals. Heavy rain began just as the runners set off and continued throughout, but it did not deter families, club runners and groups of friends completing the three kilometre or five kilometre routes.
A samba performance from Ministry of Samba lifted spirits from the middle of the park as conditions worsened.
Before setting off, participants took part in a Zumba warm-up. All finishers received a medal, with many choosing to run in full festive costume as part of the friendly Team Santa versus Team Rudolph theme.
Brighter Futures said funds raised will support its ongoing work across Great Western Hospital and community services.
