The production, a bold retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, will be performed at Swindon Arts Centre on Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November.
The cast, made up of local people aged 16 to 65, will perform a 1970s-inspired version of the Shakespearean classic. Set in a pub and soundtracked by hits from the era, the show will feature music by Led Zeppelin, Roxy Music, Elton John, Paul Simon, Blondie and KISS.
Oli Webb, Creative Learning Manager, said:
“We’re thrilled to bring the magic of Shakespeare to life in just seven days with A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
“A new project like this is always great to start, with the success of the Summer Youth Project we want to continue our legacy of excellent experiences for performers young and old in Swindon.
“This project is a whirlwind celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community spirit.
“Audiences can expect a fresh, fast-paced take on a timeless classic with live music and lots of laughter – proof that a lot can happen in a midsummer week!”
The production is led by a professional director and offers participants hands-on experience in all areas of theatre, from acting and stagecraft to rehearsal and performance techniques.
