Swindon Borough Council are reminding parents that they have just under two weeks to apply for a primary or infant school place for their child, if they have not already done so.

Children born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 must have a primary or infant school place by Monday, 15 January 2018.

Parents can make an application either online (which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) or by using the Council’s hardcopy application form.

A school application must be completed even if a child is attending a nursery at the school in which they wish to apply.

The online schools admissions system can be accessed via the Council’s website at www.swindon.gov.uk/schoolplaces

Parents can apply for three preferred schools in ranked order and are asked to give reasons for their preferences.

For children who are attending an Infant school (not a Primary School) and are currently in Year 2, parents will need to apply for a place at a Junior School for Year 3.

Please note that you can only apply for a place in Junior School and not a Year 3 place in a Primary School.

Parents who have moved to Swindon or are in the process of moving, will be required to provide a proof of their Swindon address in the form of a Tenancy Agreement or a letter confirming that contracts have been exchanged on the new property dated on or before 16 March 2018.

Cllr Fionuala Foley, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and School Attainment, said: “. So far we have received over 2,500 applications, however, if you haven’t already applied for a primary school place for your child I would urge you to do so because any applications received after the 15th January will be considered late and this could mean your child may not get any of their preferred places

“Our admissions team do a great job of matching pupils with their preferred primary schools but they can only do this if they receive applications on time.”

National offer day is Monday 16th April 2018 and parents need to accept the place by Monday 30th April 2018.

The Council cannot give any information out before this date and cannot give details over the telephone about places offered.
