Wiltshire Police are urging caravan owners to be vigilant and take steps to improve security following a number of thefts across the county.

Between 3 and 4 November, two caravans were stolen from a storage yard in Marlborough Road in Swindon after the suspects cut through padlocks to access them.

Again, between 11 and 12 November, a Lunar Quasar caravan was stolen from the same location.

Between 20 and 23 November, a Sprite Major 5 caravan was stolen from a storage yard in Semington, Trowbridge, after wire cutters were used to cut through a fence and drag the caravan out across a field.

Between 23 and 24 November, a Coachman Amara 520/4 caravan was stolen from a driveway in Brook Street, Marlborough.  A wheel clamp was cut and left at the scene.

Between 3 and 4 December, two caravans – a Bailey Ranger 500 and a distinctive Silver Airstream trailer caravan – were stolen from a yard in Down Road, Chippenham. A piece of fence securing the yard was taken and the lock was cut.

Between 3 and 4 December, three wire fences were cut at Fairfield Caravan Storage in Trowbridge and a Bailey Barcellona caravan was stolen. The suspects were then involved in a collision in the Thames Valley Police area. A man was arrested in connection with this by Thames Valley Police and later released under investigation while enquiries continue.

A Hobby caravan was also stolen from the location between this time period.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “Our enquiries are ongoing in relation to each of these incidents and we have been carrying out visibility patrols in the areas targeted. We understand that these thefts can have a real impact on the victims – the caravans stolen are worth thousands of pounds.

“We always advise caravan owners to fit security devices to their vehicles to protect them from theft or break-ins. It may seem like an extra expense but investing in these devices could really help reduce your risk of falling victim to crime.

“We would also encourage anyone who suspects a vehicle to be stolen to report it immediately – signs to look out for include a tampered with CRIS number, damage to the towing hitch, mismatched wheels and registration plates and missing original documentation.

“We are continuing with our enquiries into these incidents and are keeping an open mind as to whether any of them are linked – we would urge anyone with information in relation to the incidents to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
