Police give warning to motorists ignoring no entry signs

Officers have given a warning to motorists that continue to ignore the no entry signs on Hook Street.

They say that they have been extremely lenient over the past few weeks trying to educate rather than enforce the restriction, but when time allows this will change.

Following the change in the temporary regulation order on Hook Street an officer spent some time there last night (Wednesday 6 December) turning dozens if not hundreds of drivers around at the Lydiard Park entrance.

Royal Wootton Bassett & Cricklade Police took to social media last night to warn motorists about ignoring the no entry signs on Hook Street and gave some of the excuses motorists gave.

The full statement on Facebook said: “The signage as you can see is very clear, there is NO ACCESS to Hook Street past Lydiard Park from the Swindon direction. The road is effectively one way from Royal Wootton Bassett to Swindon except for access up to and including Lydiard Park. Some of the excuses given for trying to contravene the no entry included, “I always come this way,” I’m going to Purton”, “I live in Hook” and “I didn’t see the sign’s” the list goes on and if the officer were to have been parked at the Royal Wootton Bassett end he would probably still be there issuing tickets, but that is what we will be doing when time allows.

We have been extremely lenient over the past few weeks trying to educate rather than enforce the restriction.

Please don’t risk a nasty little unwanted bill in the form of a fixed penalty notice this close to Christmas”.
