A Swindon man has been sentenced to six years after admitting robbing four men at knife point in the town.

Tyrone Whyte (28) from Station Road, Swindon pleaded guilty to four counts of robbery and one of threatening a person with a knife at Swindon Crown Court on 31 May 2017.

He was sentenced to four years in prison and two years on licence at the same court on 11 July 2017.

During the evening of Wednesday 28 December 2015 a group of men were out drinking in the Railway Village when he approached the four and demanded money from them while threatening them with a knife.

The men handed over cash from their wallets; Whyte then escaped in a taxi but officers soon picked him up half a mile away, finding the money scrunched up on the floor behind his seat.

Later, he was positively identified in an identity parade.

Det Con Mike Armishaw said:  “This is a really pleasing sentence; the four victims had gathered for a social Christmas drink and were confronted by Tyrone Whyte where he brandished a knife towards them.

“He was able to inflict enough fear towards the victims that they handed over money from their wallets.

“I am delighted that Mr Whyte has finally pleaded guilty to the robberies after being faced with over whelming evidence.
