Getting to Glastonbury: 130 trains will stop at Castle Cary for Glastonbury festival goers and discounted tickets are available now for this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Great Western Railway (GWR), who run trains across the South West, will operate an additional 17 trains providing over 9,000 extra seats to take customers to the festival; taking the total number of trains stopping at Castle Cary from Wednesday 21 to Friday 23 June to 130.

The world-famous Glastonbury Festival runs for four consecutive days in mid-June. Arrival dates between Wednesday 21 June and Friday 23 June are expected to see more than 12,000 extra customers travelling with GWR to Castle Cary station in Somerset.

The additional customers sees Castle Cary move from being one of the quietest to one of the busiest stations on the GWR network overnight. Castle Cary station manager, James Wilcox explains:

“Glastonbury Festival is one of the busiest events on the GWR network. We want to get everyone there in a timely, safe and affordable manner.

“To offer the very best journey experience for our passengers, we provide them with the information that they need to help take advantage of quieter trains and cheaper tickets.

“Many people turn up on the day, wishing to travel on the busiest services – but they could have saved some money, and enjoyed a more pleasurable journey by booking in advance and travelling on an earlier train.”

A free bus service is provided by the festival organisers to take rail customers from Castle Cary station to the festival site. Rail ticket holders do not need to pay additionally for travel from the station to Worthy Farm.

Advance Purchase single fares are now available at GWR.com, allowing travellers to see specifically which trains they can book a seat on, and at the cheapest cost. Staff will be on hand to assist customers travelling to the festival across the GWR network.

Cheaper fares are limited in number, and sell out quickly, so customers are advised to check now if they want to save money.

Festival goers should only bring what they can carry (and will fit on a bus), charge their phone if using electronic ticketing, and remember to bring any railcards with them.
