Wiltshire Police is investigating an incident in North Swindon after a 16-year-old boy was assaulted.

The incident happened around 3.30pm yesterday (Monday 30 January 2017) on the roundabout at the junction with Redhouse Way and Millgrove Street.

The 16-year-old received a cut to the back of his head causing non-life changing/threatening injuries after being assaulted with a hammer by another boy.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital but released soon after.

A 14-year-old from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of GBH and has been released on conditional bail.

Det Sgt Graham McLaughlin said:  “We are appealing for witnesses to this incident, please contact Swindon CID if you heard or saw anything suspicious in this area at this time yesterday.

“I want to reassure everyone in the local community that this incident is being investigated and enquiries are on going.

“I would ask that if anyone witnessed anything and has not yet made contact with police then please do so;  likewise if any person has mobile phone footage of the incident please contact Swindon CID.

“As a result of this incident, officers from the local Community Policing Team will be conducting additional patrols in the area;  if anyone has any concerns then please speak with the local officers and PCSO’s during their patrols.”

If you can help with our enquiries please contact Swindon CID on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
