Pre-school children from a local nursery marked the official opening of a new footbridge in the Town Gardens.

Six children from The Trees Nursery in Quarry Road, joined local ward councillors Claire Ellis and Nadine Watts at the new footbridge, which replaced the old timber bridge in the popular Old Town park.

The work to install the new bridge and remove the old structure was overseen by the Council’s Highways team and took eight weeks to complete.

The new bridge has a steel structure with timber decking making it a more sturdy crossing.

Handrails have also been installed on the bridge, along with the gradient of the bridge being reduced to improve accessibility for people with prams or wheelchairs.

This should be welcome news to visitors of this popular park in Swindon, especially for families with younger children.
