Finns Law, a petition set up after Police Dog Finn was stabbed in the head and chest by a suspect in Stevenage earlier this month, has today reached 100,000 signatures.

The petition proposes that Police Dogs and Horses be given protection that reflects their status if assaulted in the line of duty.

The current law means that the 16-year-old who attacked Finn could only be charged with criminal damage, despite the crime fighting canine enduring emergency surgery to save his life.

Now the petition has reached the 100,000 mark, it will be considered for a debate in Parliament.

Wiltshire Police are supportive of anything that promotes the safety of members of our police family, of which our police dogs play a big part.

We were extremely saddened to hear the news regarding PD Finn and his handler, and we sent our best wishes to the pair. We are pleased to see PD Finn is on the road to recovery. What a hero.
