For those who enjoy nicotine, there are a number of tobacco products that can deliver it without the tar and toxic gases found in cigarette smoke.

snus

The most popular of these alternatives is smokeless tobacco: chewing tobacco and snuffs placed inside the mouth and chewed or sniffed.

There are a variety of brands and forms available, but most are relatively low in tar, nicotine, and other toxic substances compared to cigarettes.

In case you have never heard of this product before, here are some insights on what it is and how it works.

What are the types of smokeless tobacco?

Smokeless tobacco is a type of tobacco product that doesn’t require burning and comes in four forms – chewing, dipping, snus, and snuff.

All of them are placed in the mouth, but snus is a form of snuff that you press against the gum to release nicotine from the tobacco.

Smokeless tobacco is quite common in the UK and you can find it in a lot of places but snus in Switzerland is everywhere.

Regardless of the type, all of them work by slowly releasing nicotine when you chew/sniff them to deliver the drug into your system.

What are the differences between smokeless tobacco and cigarettes?

To get an idea about how many different types of tobacco products there are, it’s useful to compare them in terms of their ingredients. Smoking cigarettes results in the inhalation of over 4,000 chemicals, whereas chewing snuff delivers around 600.

Besides, unlike cigarettes, you won’t be lighting a smokeless tobacco product. Instead, you have to put it in your mouth and chew or sniff it for effects.

What does smokeless tobacco do to the body?

It’s not clear how long it takes to experience the effects of using smokeless tobacco, and they might differ from person to person.

Usually, you will feel a sense of calm in your body and mind right after consuming the product, but its full effect won’t be felt for around 30 minutes. It can keep you relaxed when you are on the go, on your own, or trying to relax.

What are the benefits of using smokeless tobacco?

There are several reasons why people smoke cigarettes. You can enjoy its effects anywhere you go without irritating others around you. It’s also an option that doesn’t involve fire or sharp metal objects, so there’s less risk of accidents.

The biggest advantage of using smokeless tobacco products is the reduction in risks to your health compared to smoking cigarettes. This means, there are no more concerns about dangerous chemicals or toxic particles that result from burning tobacco.

And you won’t have any unpleasant smells on your clothing or breath afterward, either.

Are there dangers of using smokeless tobacco?

Smokeless tobacco may be less toxic than cigarettes, but it’s still not harmless. It can cause dry mouth and some users experience a burning sensation as the nicotine travels through their bodies.

Although it doesn’t carry nearly as many health risks as smoking cigarettes, there are still risks to your health from using smokeless tobacco.  Besides, some people get addicted to using this product and may experience cravings throughout the day.

In case you haven’t heard about smokeless tobacco products before, now you know that it’s a very popular smokeless tobacco product available in and around the world.

Wherever you go, you can find all kinds of brands and flavours to choose from including wintergreen, mint, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and many others. Hopefully, these insights will give you enough information to make an informed decision about using this product.
