The Great Western Brick Show returns to STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway on Saturday 10th October and Sunday 11th October.
Organisers say this year’s event will be bigger than ever, taking over the entire museum.
More than 200 builders, traders and volunteers will be involved, with over 100 LEGO models and displays on show.
They will include detailed railway layouts, cityscapes, castles, spaceships and vehicles created by leading UK builders and international guests.
The show’s Robot Battles will also return as the attraction marks its 10th year.
LEGO robots will go head-to-head in three rounds each day, while visitors will also have an opportunity to take control as part of a hands-on challenge.
Organisers are also hoping to achieve another UK record with the Great Western Brick Show’s Great Ball Contraption.
The collaborative creation will stretch for 36 metres, carrying hundreds of LEGO balls through a continuous chain of individually designed machines.
Visitors will also be able to build their own creations in brick pits and play areas featuring LEGO and DUPLO.
Traders will be selling sets, collectibles and gifts, while a limited-edition LEGO kit designed exclusively for this year’s event will also be available.
Councillor Matt Vallender, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Planning and Regeneration, said:
“The Great Western Brick Show has become a much-loved fixture in STEAM’s events calendar, attracting LEGO fans and families from across the UK.
“This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with incredible displays, hands-on activities and plenty to inspire visitors of all ages.
“We’re delighted to welcome the show back to STEAM and look forward to seeing the museum filled with creativity and fun.”
Tickets include admission to both the Great Western Brick Show and STEAM, allowing visitors to explore the museum and learn about the history of Swindon’s railway works.
The show is presented by STEAM in partnership with Brickish, a UK-wide community of Adult Fans of LEGO.
It began in 2002 with a single collaborative railway layout created by Brickish members and has since grown into the organisation’s flagship annual event.
The Great Western Brick Show is billed as the UK’s longest-running LEGO fan show.
Advance tickets are available through the STEAM website.
I’ve kept the record claim attributed to organisers/the event rather than independently asserting it, while preserving the councillor’s quotes exactly as supplied.
I’d lead on the scale of the event and the 36-metre record attempt, with the robot battles as a strong secondary hook.
