Prospect Hospice confirmed the fundraising initiative collected 1,593 Christmas trees from homes across the town earlier this month.

The scheme ran from Thursday 9 January to Saturday 11 January and generated £32,132.38 to support the hospice’s care services.

Collections were carried out by hospice staff and volunteers working alongside national charity Just Helping.

Residents booked collections in advance, allowing teams to gather and recycle the trees while raising funds for hospice care.

Ben Lee, Head of Relationship Fundraising at Prospect Hospice, said the response from the local community had gone beyond expectations.

“We’ve been truly overwhelmed by the response from our community,” he said.

“Every tree collected and every donation made will have a real impact, helping us provide comfort, dignity and compassionate care to patients and their families when they need it most.

“This simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible commitment of our volunteers and the support of local businesses who give their time, vehicles and expertise so generously.”

The money raised will support specialist palliative and end-of-life care provided at the hospice and in patients’ homes across Swindon and the surrounding area.

The hospice also thanked residents who took part, as well as volunteers who worked through winter conditions and businesses that helped support the operation.
