The shop, based at 78 Cricklade Road in Gorse Hill, has created eight jobs. It opened on Thursday 27 November and will operate seven days a week.

Customers can buy a selection of the bakery chain’s well known products at significantly reduced prices. Items include sausage rolls, steak bakes, vegan choices and a range of sweet items. Strictly checked surplus products such as pizza slices and cream cakes will also be available.

The new opening forms part of Greggs nationwide Outlet programme, which redistributes unsold food at around half the usual price. The scheme, launched in 1974, is designed to help families manage rising costs while reducing the amount of food thrown away.

Greggs said food waste reduction remains a priority for the company. In 2024, Outlet customers bought millions of surplus items including sweet goods, sandwiches and savouries, representing a reported seventeen per cent rise compared to the previous year. The firm said forty five per cent of its surplus stock was redistributed.

Alongside its Outlet network, Greggs also works with the Too Good To Go app and local charity partners to ensure additional surplus food is passed on to those who need it most.

Brigitta Nagyne Steiner, Shop Manager, said: “We can’t wait to open our doors to the Swindon community. Every purchase made here not only prevents good food from going to waste but also helps fund our community grant programme, supporting local organisations to deliver vital services.”

Roisin Currie, Chief Executive at Greggs, said:

“Our new Outlet shop in Swindon reaffirms the commitments set out in the Greggs Pledge to reduce waste and support communities. By selling surplus products at great value and reinvesting a portion of the profits through The Greggs Foundation, we can help families and local charities across the country.”

Greggs currently operates more than two thousand six hundred shops across the UK. Its Foundation supports a wide range of community projects, including school breakfast clubs and grants for organisations working to reduce hardship.

The new Swindon Outlet will open during the following times:
• Monday to Friday: 7am-10pm
• Saturday: 8am-8pm
• Sunday: 8am-6pm
