When the winter months roll around, it is time to think about the ways in which you can keep your home nice and toasty.

There are plenty of little tips and tricks that you can try in order to achieve this aim, and this post will highlight some of them in more detail.

Make Sure Your Boiler is Properly Serviced

If your boiler is due a tune up, it is worth calling in the gas central heating engineers at the earliest opportunity.

This way, you can save any uncomfortable situations from occurring when you are left without any heating at the worst possible time.

Winter is always going to be a busy time of year for the professionals in this industry, so it is worth giving yourself peace of mind with a check up of your boiler to keep the heat on as long as you can.

Invest in Some Thick Curtains

A lot of your home’s heat is lost through the windows, so it is worth investing in some thick
curtains to stop it from getting away.

Look at some with a thermal lining – the thicker the better.

However, you don’t want to keep these closed all the time. During any sunlight hours, it is worth keeping them open to let in as much free heat as you can possibly get!

Watch Out for Areas of Draught

As much as possible, you want to stop draughts from becoming a problem in your home. There are several areas that could be causing an issue.

One of these is the letterbox, but putting a brush in can help to alleviate this issue. Keyholes are also a potential source of draught that can be covered up using a little bit of plastic.

If you have a cat flap, you could put in a bit of insulation to prevent heat from being lost. Even a small draught can cause a big problem in a room, so it is worth getting it shuttered up.

Clear Your Radiators

A major issue can be caused by blockages in front of your radiators that are not allowing them to do their job properly. You should also avoid putting any large pieces of furniture in front of them as this can cause a lot of the heat to be soaked up.

Similarly, if you are drying clothes all day long on them, they are not going to be doing their job in the best possible way.

Keep Doors Closed

Doors are a simple way of shutting in heat, but many people are simply not using them as well as they should be. So, if you have a room that is not in use, it is worth closing the door on it.

This will help to prevent cold air from flowing through the rest of the house.
Keeping your home warm in winter can be achieved through a number of different techniques, but these are just a few of them to put into practice for yourself.
