Gardening can be a very therapeutic hobby, and it’s a popular choice for many people all over the world.

Whether you love to tend to gorgeous flower beds or take pride in a lush allotment full of fruit and vegetables, there are always plenty of useful tools and techniques every gardener should be aware of.

If you spend a lot of time in your garden looking after the plants, you might already have some or all of the following items, but if not, think about how these five essentials for gardening could be useful to you.

1. Shed/Workshop

It’s important to have a safe place where you can leave all of your gardening tools, especially more expensive items such as a lawnmower.

How big your shed is will depend on the size of your garden, but even smaller yards can still fit in compact storage for the basics.

If you have a bigger outdoor area on your property and you enjoy spending time working on it, think about whether you would enjoy a new garden workshop.

They are similar to a shed but are slightly bigger and allow for more room to tend to your gardening projects or activities like woodwork.

2. Greenhouse

A greenhouse is perfect for individuals who are looking to grow things like tomatoes, chillies, or other herbs and vegetables that thrive in warmer climates.

Even some floral plants survive better in these constructions.

Again, how much space you have in your garden will affect how big your greenhouse can be, but if there is no room for a traditional structure, think about investing in a smaller, plastic-covered greenhouse instead.

3. Knee Pads

Part of gardening is getting on your hands and needs as you remove weeds from your flower beds and plant new seeds and bulbs in the soil.

At first, these tasks might not seem so bad, but after a while, you might find yourself feeling uncomfortable and that your knees get sore.

This is why having special knee pads to kneel on as you work is a great idea. While you might still get some aches and pains, they will certainly help to make you more comfortable!

4. Compost Bin

Bags of compost might not seem that expensive at your local gardening centre, but over time it all adds up.

Instead, invest in a good-sized compost bin to keep in your garden, and start to make your own compost.

You can put vegetable peels, eggshells, and other scraps in there and over time these will break down providing you with lush, nutritious compost to put on your flower beds. You can also throw in the trimmings from cutting the grass and pruning your plants too.

5. Gloves

Finally, a very simple yet effective essential for every gardener is gardening gloves. You use your hands constantly when gardening, and it’s easy to develop blisters and sores, especially when you’re digging holes for plants in the soil or carrying out heavy lifting tasks.

Invest in a few pairs of good quality gardening gloves to help protect your hands as you work.

If you’re already a keen gardener or are thinking of becoming one, make sure you have these five essentials to help you make the most of your garden.
