The people responsible for getting patients back on their feet after a serious illness or injury are encouraging like minded healthcare staff from Swindon and further afield to join their team.

On Saturday 4 November, the team at the Swindon Intermediate Care Centre (SwICC), which offers rehabilitation support to people recovering from strokes and other debilitating conditions, will be opening their doors as part of a recruitment event for registered nurses.

Those coming along will have the opportunity to meet the current team, have a tour of the building and ask any questions they may have about what it’s like to work in this unique and rewarding area of the NHS.

Interviews will also be held on the day for any nurses who would like to start their application process without unnecessary delay.

Located just a few metres away from the main Great Western Hospital building, SwICC is a state-of-the-art facility comprising 60 beds split across two wards, Orchard and Forest.

Ashley Oakshott, Head of Recruitment, said: “When thinking of a hospital, it’s easy to imagine that when patients begin to feel better, they’re discharged and sent on their way.

“In reality, there’s a whole other stage in between leaving hospital and returning home, and it’s called intermediate care.

“Elderly patients and those with complex conditions often need extra support before they are able to return to an independent way of living and that’s where SwICC comes in.

“Helping someone get back to their old way of life is an immensely satisfying experience and I’d urge any nurse who feels they would be an asset to the team to come along on Saturday and find out more.”

Nurses interested in more flexible working are also invited to attend as information on how to join the Bank – the Trust’s own staffing agency, which allows employees to pick and choose shifts which fit around their personal commitments – will be available.

Working in the NHS comes with a wide range of benefits including a generous pension scheme, dedicated study time, 27 days annual leave and access to exclusive local and national retail discounts.

Although the event, which runs between 9.30am and 12.30pm, will work on a drop-in basis, candidates who would like to be considered for an interview on the day should apply online through the NHS Jobs website.
